The Three Amigos - Recollections by Gus Frederick

An Anonymous Cartoon and It's Parody: During the 2011 community debates regarding the proposed "Concept 5" street scape project, an initially widely supported proposal to transform a single block of Silverton's East Main Street, was ultimately defeated, due to vocal opposition from actors making use of extreme hyperbole, public shaming and out-right lies.

Below is a case in point, as well as a "Graphic Rebuttal" to same (CLICK the button below to view a full-sized version). On the left is a mass-produced anonymous flier distributed throughout town, during the Morning of yet another public meeting.

Anonymous Cartoon and It's Parody

The "Three Amigos" are labeled with the names of three ardent supporters of the project: (L-R) Gus Frederick, Silverton Historian; Steve Kay, Silverton City Planner; and Bryon Cosgrove, Silverton City Manager.

As the author of this content you are now reading, and a huge fan of the political cartoon medium, I was proud to be listed in this manner! Not sure about my "Two Amigos" but I suspect it didn't matter.

On the right, is MY "Graphic Rebuttal." The same cartoon was modified and relabeled with those main persons responsible for the "vocal opposition"—as well as it's steady stream of Tea-Partier Tactics—to the project, (two of whom are now deceased).

As publisher of Silverton's leading Biennial Parody "News Source," I was inspired by this "Victorian" graphic, and have used it—relevantly modified—in each edition of the Silvertongue Apple-Peal.
